Clos Pitois opens with an intriguing nose of underbrush, ripe red fruits, and toasted almonds, with underlying hints of sun-baked earth and spice. It comes from the Clos Pitois vineyard, a monopole owned by the Belland family with stony, clay-rich soils, imparting remarkable depth and complexity to the wine. The Belland family has been producing wine in Burgundy for over a century, with a focus on sustainable, organic viticulture and traditional winemaking techniques. Their vineyards are harvested by hand and are currently under the leadership of fifth- and sixth-generation winemakers Roger and Julie Belland, a father and daughter combination. The palate is rich and well-structured, with flavours of raspberry, sour cherry, and garrigue, all elevated by vibrant acidity and a silky tannic texture. The finish is long and laden with minerals, with lingering notes of spice and umami-tinged forest floor. The grapes were plucked from 50-year-old Pinot Noir vines, before being aged for 1 year in French oak. Perfectly enjoyable alone, this wine will also be fantastic alongside a roast chicken, a charcuterie board, or a mushroom risotto.
